Smoke Out 8 is still on.

Same time, same place and with beer.

Last night the Rowan County Council had a vote, in our favor, which puts the whole controversy to rest.

I have never had so many e-mails, phone calls and uncertainty, so close to the event. It has been a difficult time for everyone and I am glad it is behind us.

The next round of questions the Smoke Out faithful are starting to ask is, how will this affect this year’s event? Are the police going to be asked to crack down on the bikers, etcetera?  The answer is this will be one last (for Salisbury), great event that you will not want to miss.

The fact is we have an overwhelming amount of support in the community. I literally had 100 positive e-mails for each of the very few negative e-mails I received.

The detractors to our event do not believe in alcohol consumption. I am not even going to address that now but it is important to realize that our detractors truly believe they are doing the right thing on moral grounds. These are not evil people that will stay up nights looking for ways to ruin things for us. They had their say, there was a vote and we have to trust their word that it is over, that there will not be anymore games with more ordinances, etcetera. Our detractors know they have won in the sense that we will be someplace else next year. Everyone is up for one last, game free, peaceful event.

The police have always been excellent. Sure, they crack down quick on riding intoxicated, or doing burnouts that are not in the burn out pit, or stupid stuff that could get someone hurt, but that is their job. They have never been assholes and I am assured they do not plan to start and I am sure that I will have more than a couple of meetings with the police force before the event.

The mood in the town is the same attitude we should have.  Let’s just make this one last great event without any incidents.  Finally, I am starting to look forward to this.  We are a little behind now but we will get caught up.  . Salisbury has been a great home for us in many ways and the people that I have actually dealt with have been terrific. I want this last event to be amazing, for everyone.
